An AKC conformation club promoting purebred dogs — a community of dog owners, breeders and exhibitors devoted to responsible breeding and showing.
Ozarks Kennel Club (OKC) is an organization of dog owners, breeders and exhibitors devoted to the responsible breeding and showing of purebred dogs. Our club is all about AKC conformation, and we're happy to help anyone curious about the sport.
The first dog show was held in 1859 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England, as a way to judge whether breeding stock fell within the breed standard — and to let breeders showcase their up-and-coming dogs. More than 150 years later, the principle behind showing a dog hasn't changed, even if the grooming building has gotten a lot busier.
A dog show is really a conformation show: a show to judge how well a dog conforms to its breed standard — the written description of the ideal for each breed, covering build and overall looks as well as temperament, gait and unique characteristics.
Whether you're a first-time exhibitor or a seasoned breeder, our club offers the resources, training and camaraderie to help you and your dog succeed.
A conformation class prepares you and your dog for your first experience in the ring — and for your best chances at winning. Learn stacking, gaiting, ring procedure and conditioning.
Wish you could have a practice run before going into a real show? That's exactly what match shows are for — a low-pressure chance to test your skills and get feedback.
An experienced teacher who can show you the ropes is the most valuable resource any newcomer can have. Our members are generous with their knowledge and quick to lend a hand.
Go to a show and familiarize yourself with what happens in the ring, and experience the energy and camaraderie between spectators and exhibitors.
Judges evaluate not only your dog's skills but how well your dog shows and is cared for. Understanding the standard is the foundation of everything in the ring.
Once immersed in the dog world it's easy to become hyper-focused on competition. Always remember: the best dog at a dog show is the one that goes home with you at the end of the day.
